1965 Hall of Fame

1965 was a notable year in the Hall of Fame process. The BBWAA was still in an every other year process for just even numbered years. That left 1965 to just the Veterans Committee, where they submitted just one man: John Francis "Pud" Galvin, the first ever 300 game winner in baseball. The problem was, Pud played in the 1800s and died in 1902, thus there was no one alive to give a speech and put into the Hall that summer. The outrage around the situation led to the decision to let the BBWAA vote every year from now on to increase the odds that someone more recent (and alive) can be honored for the Hall of Fame.
