MLB Showdown Obsession

 In 1962 the National League expanded into Queens and the New York Mets were born. To honor the previous NY teams that left, they chose to color their team in Dodger blue and Giant orange and to utilize a familiar NY on their caps. They even had Casey Stengel managing the club to give fans a mix of all the NY teams to come out for. Meanwhile, the Yankees were still around, doing their best to also continue the tradition of winning that NY fans were used to seeing in the city. There was no elite threat in Center for the Mets, though Ashburn was chosen as the lone representative for the all star game. Ashburn and Hickman platooned in Center for the inaugural season. The team was garbage, setting the record for losses at 120. As bad as they were, the city had a soft spot for their scrappy infant team. With the Yankees still elite, fans were just thankful to have an NL team and supported them. The Yankees in the meantime had been laboring to keep the city on top. They missed the World ...

 The Oakland Athletics of recent years are bad. Real Bad. So bad that they're moving to Vegas. So bad that it's hard to think of any good players. Sure, they send an all star or two every year, but usually as a reserve that they have to carry so every team has representation. They're not Detroit Lions or Cleveland Browns bad where they lose EVERY game, but you better believe every team that sees them on the schedule breathe a sigh of relief they they're getting an easy series that they can either tune up the team if they're struggling or easily continue a winning stretch. So imagine how embarrassing it would be to hit seven home runs against these guys and still lose! The 2022 version of the A's went 60-102. Worst record in baseball. The 2022 Los Angeles Angels weren't much better, going 73-89 for third place in the division. The Angels are bad, and they shouldn't be according to all the experts.  I've made a lot of cards for this blog...A LOT of cards. I believe I've backed up the "Obsession" claim I make in the site's name. It helps that baseball has a long and rich history, with lots of teams over the time. And all these teams have changed their look over the eras. It makes for a fun variety of looks for each card...however...The Showdown Bot does not account for all those different logos in every teams history. And because I'm neurotic, I try to avoid using the wrong logo or picture for the card. A few examples of my inanity: -I made an update scheduled for later this year about the 1994 strike season. I made a bunch of cards for some of the most notable players of that season. That particular season, MLB was celebrating their 100th season, commemorating it with a special patch every team wore on their sleeve that season. -I check Sportslogos.net with just about every card I made, just in case a team had a special patch or uniform variant for tha...

 The arguments are over. New York had entered it's awkward 4 year gap where there was the Yankees and nothing else. The Giants and Dodgers are gone to the west coast, another city claims the title of baseballs best team, New Yorkers don't know what to think. Willie Mays and Duke Snider are wearing mostly the same uniforms, it's the caps that only seem wrong. The familiar overlapping NY on Mays is now an SF, while the classic B on Snider is now an interlocking LA. Utter chaos! No doubt Snider has had better cards but Mays has taken the transition to California in stride. Mantle remains the top option, even if he took a small step back from his back-to-back MVP seasons. While the National League has a completely different look for 1958, the end result was the same as last year, as was the American League; the pennant winners were once again the Braves and Yankees.
