1969 Hall of Fame

So we've mentioned the Veterans Committee before, and now I shall elaborate on it. While the BBWAA votes every year on the more recent names in baseball, the Veterans committee exists as a second look group. In the era we're currently reached, that would mean guys who were active in the pre-World Series days and early goings before the Hall of Fame was created. They also look into Managers, Executives, Umpires and other such notable people who contributed to baseball in a non-playing sort of way. They meet behind closed doors and their votes are generally not made public except for if someone is lucky enough to be submitted for the Hall.

As we've begun to approach 100 years of the Hall of Fame, it has become obvious that the Veterans Committee purview of "everything except the recent players" has become quite bloated, so their role has been divided into sub categories. Now, instead of announcing "Veterans Committee" selections, you hear about titles such as "Contemporary" or "Classic Baseball" which are still the Veterans Committee, they just have a rotating schedule of which eras to focus on.

Anyway, they were still just the Veterans Committee back in 1969, and they decided upon two men to join the other duo voted in by the BBWAA, giving the Hall of Fame four new men to immortalize for that nice year.
